CLAME & ICPAC Strengthen Regional Collaboration on Sustainable Pest Management 🌾

On 29 January 2026, CropLife Africa Middle East (CLAME) and IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost climate-informed early warning and sustainable pest management across the IGAD region (Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda).

The MoU formalizes a region-wide partnership combining climate intelligence, pest surveillance, and stewardship expertise to:
✅ Strengthen preparedness against transboundary pest threats
✅ Enhance agricultural sustainability and safety .
✅ Accelerate coordinated regional action

Key focus areas include:
👉 Incorporating Integrated Pest Management (IPM) into farming systems
👉 Raising awareness on safe pesticide use and tackling counterfeit products
👉 Incorporating pest and pesticide data into ICPAC hazard & Pest Watch platforms
👉 Enhancing early warning systems for transboundary pests
👉 Launching a Regional Drones Community of Practice for training, knowledge sharing, and innovation
👉 Supporting pesticide lifecycle management, capacity building, and policy guidance

Under the leadership of Dr. Abdi Fidar (ICPAC Acting Director) and Jerome Barbaron (CLAME President & Board Chair), technical teams will now implement the framework to strengthen food security, nutrition, and resilience across the IGAD countries.
